About The Books

P.W. Catanese is the author of four novels for the young adult market, with over 400,000 books in print: The Thief and the Beanstalk, The Brave Apprentice, The Eye of the Warlock and The Mirror’s Tale.

Each of these fantasy-adventure novels is inspired by a classic fairy tale, and tells what happens many years after the events of the original story. The author is currently working on his fifth novel, The Riddle of the Gnome, for publication in early 2007. The publisher is Simon and Schuster/Aladdin Paperbacks. The books range from approximately 240 to 280 pages. All are available in paperback.

The books have earned a reputation for vivid description and for their appeal to reluctant readers.

School Visits

Presentations are generally about 45 minutes. I’ve met with everything from individual classrooms to assemblies of up to 350 students, usually from the 4th to 6th grades, but I can talk to older students as well. No special equipment is needed other than a microphone if crowd size makes it necessary.

I usually ask if the goal is to inspire the love of reading or explore the craft of writing, or both. Depending on the goal, I cover the topics below, with frequent opportunities for students to contribute their thoughts.
